Synopsis
Synopsis | In 2004 in Qamichli, Syria, Mesto, a young man of 17, dreams of joining his town's football club. But he was turned down because he had no papers as a Kurd. During the match between Qamichli and the neighbouring Syrian town, the club coach let him play for a few minutes. Mesto scored an unexpected goal, but his joy was ruined by a riot that broke out in the stands between the supporters, resulting in several deaths. The event quickly escalated into a revolt demanding more rights for the Kurds. In spite of himself, Mesto was to become a symbol of the Kurdish rebels' struggle against the Syrian regime. |
