No Mater

Throughout her life, the director has said ‘No’ to motherhood. A choice with no regrets. With modesty, tenderness and humour, she tells the story of her journey. Her story leads to others, those of her ancestors and of other women she has met along the way. In a form that blends different registers of images, their voices converse, merge and bring into the public sphere words that are still taboo. A first-person film, No Mater calls for sharing, for ‘us’. Its narrative is intended to echo and resonate with those who, today, choose not to become mothers.
